1. CHANGE IN ADVISING WALK-IN SCHEDULE
The fall 2003 semester F-1 and J-1 Advising Walk-in
schedule is now available on the ISSS web site. Please refer
to this schedule before coming to ISSS:
2. ADDITIONAL CPT/OPT WORKSHOP: THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 4
An additional CPT/OPT Workshop is scheduled for Thursday, September
4, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. in HHH 289. Attend one of these workshops
to find out everything you need to know about Curricular and Optional
Practical Training! Pick up the forms that you need, ask questions,
and learn from your fellow students questions as well. Please
see the ISSS career
series web site for additional dates and workshop details.
3. SMALL WORLD COFFEE HOUR: FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 5
Welcome to new students and scholars! Welcome back to returning
students and scholars!!! Small World Coffee Hour is a great opportunity
to relax, see your old friends and meet new ones!
DO NOT miss our New Academic Year kick off event this Friday!!!
ISSS and MISA will join efforts to put on a great outdoor Coffee
Hour at Coffman Union. We will have delicious Mediterranean foods,
coffee, tea, and we will celebrate rhythms and songs from around
the world!!
We will also give away some terrific prizes, and have tons of
info on how to make the best of your academic experience!! You CANNOT
miss it!! Come join us this Friday!! Dont forget to invite
your friends!!

4. ATTENTION NATIVE NORWEGIAN-SPEAKING STUDENTS
A Culture Corps opportunity is now available to native Norwegian-speaking
students to help compile a learners' dictionary for English-speaking
students of Norwegian. Mature undergraduate or graduate students
from Norway who are interested in helping develop and refine definitions
and usage examples of Norwegian (preferably bokmål) words.
An interest in linguistics or lexicography is preferred but by no
means required. Contact Louis Janus,

Average time commitment 1-3 hours a week.
5. ATTENTION NON-ROMANCE AND NON-GERMANIC LANGUAGE STUDENTS
A Culture Corps opportunity is now available to an undergraduate
who can work 20 hours per week during Fall Semester as a Teaching
Assistant in Anthropology 3005: Language and Sociocultural Analysis.
Applicants must speak, read and write a language that is non-Romance
and non-Germanic. Command of a creole such as Sierra Leone, Cameroon
Pidgin or Papua New Guinea Tok Pisin is particularly desirable,
but not required. The job involves working individually and in small
groups with students as they learn how to obtain and use linguistic
data for social and cultural research. Contact Professor
