NEW ITEMS

1. SEVIS UPDATE

As of February 15, 2003, the Immigration & Naturalization Service (INS) requires that ISSS issues all documents through SEVIS. We appreciate your continued patience.

2. J-1 APPLICATION FORMS TEMPORARILY NOT AVAILABLE 14

ISSS is updating all J-1 document request forms to include information required by SEVIS in order to issue valid documents. As of Friday, February 14, 2003, J-1 forms for students, scholars and University departments are temporarily not available to download; hard copies of forms will not be provided in ISSS. We apologize for the inconvenience and ask for your patience as we revise these forms. We will update you once the forms are available again.

3. F-1 DOCUMENT SPECIALIST WALK-INS CANCELLED

On Tuesday, February 18, F-1 Document Specialist Walk-ins are cancelled. ISSS appreciates your continued patience as we work with SEVIS changes.

4. SPECIAL REGISTRATION UPDATE

Please be aware of approaching Special Registration deadlines and start dates for affected individuals in Group Three and Four as identified by the Immigration & Naturalization Service (INS). Affected individuals in Group Three must report by Friday, February 21, 2003 for Special Registration. The Special Registration reporting period for Group Four begins on Monday, February 24, 2003, and continues until Friday, March 28, 2003. Affected individuals in Group Four must report during this period.

5. SMALL WORLD COFFEE HOUR THIS UPCOMING FRIDAY!!!

WHEN: FRIDAY, February 21
TIME: 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.
WHERE: Heller Hall, room 110 (Minneapolis, West Bank campus)
Come have fun! Small World Coffee Hour is a great way to relax after a long week of studying -- a great opportunity to see your friends and to meet new ones! Join us at the next Small World Coffee Hour for an introduction to Romanian culture. Enjoy traditional Romanian food, and learn a little history and geography of the area. Also, there will be a presentation about the history and characteristics of Romanian folk music, followed by a performance/demonstration by Irina Comardicea, who has performed traditional Romanian folk music for many years. See you there!

6. ISSS INVITES ALL SPRING 2003 GRADUATES!

Please remember that all international undergraduate, professional, and graduate students planning to graduate this Spring 2003 are invited to attend a celebration with ISSS and the Office of International Programs. Your families, academic advisers, and friends are also invited to come for this celebration honoring you. Please join us on Friday, May 2 from 3:30 to 6:00 p.m. in the Humphrey Ballroom, Radisson Hotel Metrodome, 615 Washington Avenue S.E., Minneapolis. A short program will begin at 4:30 p.m. No reservation is necessary.
Please be sure that you have contacted your college directly about their specific requirements and deadlines for graduation and commencement.
