INCREASE IN THE INTERNATIONAL STUDENT FEE
The Board of Regents approved the budget which includes an increase
in the International Student Administrative Fee to $50 per semester
beginning Fall semester 2002.

CULTURE CORPS OPPORTUNITY THROUGH BOYTON HEALTH SERVICES!!!
Boynton Health Service is looking for three international undergraduate
students one each from the countries of China, India and Japan
to serve in a pilot program called International Health Advocates
(IHA). Students can expect to devote no more than ten hours per
week to the IHA program for each semester of the 2002-2003 academic
year. In exchange for services provided, the IHAs will receive a
25% tuition waiver through the Culture Corps program administered
through International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS). Applicants
can fill out the web-based application and submit it electronically
or in person no later than July 12, 2002.

INTERNATIONAL FRIENDSHIP GROUP LEADERS APPLICATIONS ARE NOW AVAILABLE!
Discover new worlds -- right here at the University of Minnesota!
Volunteer to be a leader with a group of newly arrived international
students this fall semester!
All prospective International Friendship Group leaders complete
an application and, if accepted, receive training, support, and
a certificate of service from ISSS. Applications are available at
ISSS, or by calling Barbara Kappler at: 612-626-7100.

5.
ON-CAMPUS WORK PERMIT ENDS ON GRADUATION DAY
International students attending the U who meet student employment
eligibility criteria are automatically authorized to work on campus
(part-time during school, full-time during break). This work authorization
ends on the day a student graduates. Please meet with an ISSS advisor
to discuss and secure proper work authorization before continuing
your on-campus employment after graduation. This includes your graduate
assistantship.
6.
SUMMER EMPLOYMENT OFF THE UM CAMPUS
As an international student, you MUST have an off campus work
permit before working off campus. This INS rule applies year round
(including summer) and nationwide (anywhere within the U.S.). Please
meet with an advisor before you accept any off-campus job, regardless
which state you will be working in.

The web version of the ISSS Weekly Update will not be available
between the weeks of June 10 and July 8, and will resume the week
