2. SAME-DAY TRAVEL SIGNATURE, TUESDAY, MAY 21

If you are leaving the U.S. and you do not need to apply for a new entry visa stamp, you will need a valid travel signature on your I-20. This service usually has a two-day turn-around time. However, ISSS will offer travel signature service on a Same-Day basis on Tuesday, May 21, between 8:30 am _ 11:45 am, and 1:00 p.m. _ 4:15 p.m.

To qualify for a Same-Day Signature, a student must bring to ISSS:

  • Passport with valid F-1 entry visa stamp
  • Form I-94 (white card
  • Unofficial Transcript
  • Exception From a Full Course of Study form(s), if needed
  • EAD (if you have Optional Practical Training)

Students who need to apply for a new entry visa will need to see Suzan, Monday through Friday, after 10:30 am.

3. CURRICULAR/OPTIONAL PRACTICAL TRAINING WORKSHOP, WEDNESDAY MAY 24

Everything you need to know about Curricular and Optional Practical Training!

More information on this workshop and the whole career series.....

4. ON-CAMPUS WORK PERMIT ENDS ON GRADUATION DAY

International students attending the U who meet student employment eligibility criteria are automatically authorized to work on campus (part-time during school, full-time during break). This work authorization ends on the day a student graduates. Please meet with an ISSS advisor to discuss and secure proper work authorization before continuing your on-campus employment after graduation. This includes your graduate assistantship.

5. SUMMER EMPLOYMENT OFF THE UM CAMPUS

As an international student, you MUST have an off campus work permit before working off campus. This INS rule applies year round (including summer) and nationwide (anywhere within the U.S.). Please meet with an advisor before you accept any off-campus job, regardless which state you will be working in.

6. LIMITED STAFF MAY 28 - 31

ISSS will have limited staff available the week of May 28-31 because many of the advisers will be attending a national conference. It is essential that our staff attend this conference in order to keep current on immigration matters and other international student and scholar issues. Also, ISSS will be closed on Monday, May 27th because it is an official University holiday. If possible, please schedule your business with ISSS before or after the week of May 28-31.

We will have our usual F and J visa advising Walk-In hours on Wednesday - Friday (May 29 31), but there will be fewer advisers available to serve you. The J document specialist walk-ins are CANCELLED for May 28 - 31.

Employment-based services will also be limited, as all senior staff will be at this conference as well. Please feel free to leave detailed messages for employment-based staff on voicemail, and your calls will be returned when they return.

For more information about the walk-In schedule, please visit the ISSS Web site
