Applications are now available for ISSS's spring 2008 cross-cultural
discussion groups. The discussion groups provide an opportunity for both
international and U.S. students to share experiences and personal thoughts

2. CPT/OPT WORKSHOP - JANUARY 16, RARIG CENTER: STUDIO 5, 5th FLOOR
Find out everything you need to know about Curricular and Optional Practical
Training. Obtain the forms that you need, ask questions, and learn from your

3. NO WALK-INS ON ISOP DAY - JANUARY 17
F and J as well as Financial Aid walk-in advising are cancelled on Thursday,
January 17 because of International Student Orientation Program all day.

4. WANTED: UNDERGRADUATE INTERNATIONAL STUDENT AMBASSADORS:
APPLICATION DUE JANUARY 18!

ISSS is seeking motivated and enthusiastic international students for the
spring semester to take part in our new Ambassador Program!
When: Spring Semester 2008
Time Commitment: 2 hours a week

5. MARTIN LUTHER KING HOLIDAY, ISSS IS CLOSED - JANUARY 21
ISSS is also closed for an official University Holiday celebrating the
birthday of Martin Luther King. Please plan your visits accordingly.
6. H-1B VISA WORKSHOP, THURSDAY, JANUARY 24, 4:30-6:00 PM
H-1B's are temporary worker visas. At this workshop, an immigration
attorney from a local law firm will provide information on H-1B visa
eligibility requirements, the application process, and the necessary
timelines. This workshop is specifically for people who are interested in
obtaining H-1B visas for employers other than University of Minnesota.

7. BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND! FREE CROSS-CULTURAL LEADERSHIP RETREAT:
APPLICATION DEADLINE - TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 5
This retreat is for international and U.S. students who want to learn to
become more effective in international environments. This highly
interactive, high-energy retreat becomes a living laboratory of what it
takes to work with people from vastly different cultures. You will meet
other students, begin friendships with people from all over the world, and
discover your own leadership potential.
A cutting edge cross cultural leadership model, Personal Leadership, will be
used to develop participants' cross cultural skill-set that is needed for
professional and personal lives in the 21st century.
Space is limited so hurry up and apply online before February 5 2008. If
