NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS:
1. ATTENTION: RULES CHANGED FOR F-1 STUDENTS APPLYING FOR SOCIAL SECURITY CARD/NUMBER
As of October 13, 2004, the U.S. Social Security Administration changed the regulations regarding the eligibility of F-1 students to get a Social Security Card and Number (SS#). F-1 students must now have a job in order to be eligible for a SS#. To apply for a SS#, F-1 students must present proof of a job or a job offer (from hiring department) and authorization for employment from a Designated School Official (DSO) in ISSS. Please see the ISSS web site for detailed information and instructions
This is also true for F-1 students who already have a SS#, but lose their card. F-1 students must have a current job or job offer in order to apply for a replacement card.
Rules for J-1 students and scholars have remained the same.
2. SEE SPECIAL OPPORTUNITIES ON ISSS WEB
Be sure to check the ISSS web site for special opportunities – class offerings, scholarships, internships, etc. New events to be posted this week, including a free writing workshop!
