Minnesota
Minnesota is in the north central region of the United States. Near the geographic center of North America, it is bordered on the north by the Canadian provinces of Manitoba and Ontario, on the west by North Dakota and South Dakota, on the south by Iowa, and on the east by Wisconsin and Lake Superior. The area of Minnesota is 225,181 sq km which makes it the 12th largest of 50 states. From north to south the state measures 653 km, and from east to west it measures 576 km the average elevation is 370 m.
Fun Facts about Minnesota…

- Masking and Scotch tape, Wheaties cereal, Bisquick, HMOs, the bundt pan, Aveda beauty products, and Green Giant vegetables where all invented in Minnesota.
- The Minneapolis Sculpture Garden is the largest urban sculpture garden in the country.
- The first open heart surgery and the first bone marrow transplant in the United States were done at the University of Minnesota.
- The Guthrie Theater (Minneapolis) is the largest regional playhouse in the country.
- Minneapolis’ famed skyway system connecting 52 blocks (nearly five miles) of downtown makes it possible to live, eat, work and shop without going outside.
Housing
Participants will stay on the College of St. Catherine’s campus. Each participant will stay in either the Henrietta Schmoll Rauenhorst Residence Hall or St. Mary’s hall apartment. Linens and towels will be provided for all participants.
Transportation
Transportation will be provided to and from the airport as well as to all other program field trips.
Climate and Clothing
Minnesota has an amazing mix of weather throughout the year. Air temperature, wind, clouds, and other factors vary day by day. The weather in Minnesota in May is usually very comfortable. The average daily low temperature in May is 9 °C and the average high temperature is 20°C. The average rainfall for the month is 9 cm.

Participants can wear casual spring clothes during the day. A jacket is recommended because venings may be cool.
Program workshops will be held in a variety of rooms and in different buildings. As a result, the room temperatures can fluctuate significantly. We recommend you bring a sweater and rain jacket.
