Undergraduate International Friendship Group Program
Adjusting to a new environment can be exciting and challenging. New international students at the University of Minnesota often have a lot of questions and concerns during their first weeks on campus. This program was created to ease the transition, with current undergraduate students helping new undergraduate students.
New students can now sign up to be part of an International Friendship Group by completing the participant application form by August 18th. Each participant will be assigned to a group led by two group leaders, one who is an experienced international student on campus and a U.S. student with international experience. Each group will have between 6-10 members. Your group leaders will contact you before your arrival at the University of Minnesota and you can ask them any questions that you may have.
Participant Time Commitment:
Our kick-off welcome parties for all IFGP members will be held on August 18th and August 22nd. After our welcome parties, small groups gather weekly starting August 25th to mid-September. Monthly events are then held throughout the semester. In past years all the groups have had the opportunity to meet together for activities, such as a picnic, bowling, and a celebration of Thanksgiving. During the fall semester, participating students may contact their group leaders and other new students to ask for information or assistance.
Group Interns (Leaders):
IFGP Interns will assume the role of group leaders among other responsibilities with in the program. All interns complete an application, are interviewed, and receive training, support, and a certificate of service from ISSS.
