  Student Application Process

Culture Corps supports an average of 20 internationally focused projects per semester at the University of Minnesota. We encourage a diversity of projects that impact the University of Minnesota in a variety of ways!

The process for submitting a project proposal and application is the following:
  1. Determine your eligibility
  2. Research information about your project idea and create an outline. Some things to think about are:
    • What is the purpose of the project?
    • How does this project help internationalize the U of MN?
    • Who is the potential audience?
    • Why is the project valuable?
  3. Discuss your project ideas with the Culture Corps Coordinator. At this time you can develop your project; further explore additional ideas.
  4. Find a faculty or staff member who supports your project idea and ask them to be your mentor.
  5. Complete and submit the Culture Corps application (available through the Culture Corps Coordinator.)
  6. Applications are reviewed within one-weeks after the deadline.
  7. Scholarship award are made.
  8. Submit a written essay that where you summarize and reflect on the strengths of your project and offer ways on the project might have been approved upon.

Scholarship Awards and Deadlines

Deadline for summer and fall semester projects is August 26th, 2005

Proposals are reviewed by the Culture Corps committee and award decisions are based on many factors, including:

  1. How the project adds to the internationalization of the U of MN in terms of educational outcomes (participants learning a new perspective on a topic; participants interacting with one another and with new ideas)
  2. The impact of the project on campus (how many students, staff, faculty participate; how in-depth are the interactions when people do participate)
  3. What is unique about the project
  4. The amount of time the project will take to implement
  5. The total amount of funds available to be distributed amongst all accepted projects (note that the competition is increasing as more applications are submitted each term)
