  Faculty and Staff Information

Over forty-five departments have benefited from international students and their Culture Corps projects in the last three years. Here is how you begin to utilize the unique perspectives and skills of an international student through Culture Corps!

Initiating a Culture Corps Project
The process for submitting a project proposal and application isthe following:

  1. Consider how an international student could bring international perspectives or skills to your classroom or university activity.
  2. Discuss your idea with the Culture Corps Coordinator.
  3. Present your idea to an international student who would be a good match and be able to commit to the project. If you need help finding an interested international student the Culture Corps Coordinator can assist you.

Serving as a Mentor

Faculty or staff interested in a Culture Corps project idea are sometimes asked to serve as a mentor for an international student. The weight of the project design, management and implementation are the responsibility of the international student. As a mentor, you will be asked to be a guide to the international student during the design and implementation of the project.

As a mentor you could be asked to advise students with:

  • Project design
  • providing cultural insights about completing projects in the U.S.
  • Promoting the project
  • Providing resources
  • Logistics

Quotes

"Culture Corps gives an important message to international students and their departments: Don't hide differences, use them!"
Anja Klock

"Our dictionary project, although far from completion, is making gigantic strides in the right direction thanks to the insights Ms. Reinertsen provides and the discussions we have about the actual, contemporary usages in Norwegian. These kinds of issues will prove to be beneficial to all Norwegian language students at the University of Minnesota and beyond."
Dr. Louis Janus
Center for Advanced Research on Language Acquisition (CARLA)

"International students expose the University community to a different type of knowledge that we otherwise overlook."

Dr. Mohammed Bari, Culture Corps Founder
