Temporary Housing Information For International Students

International Reception Center (IRC), Fall Semester Only

The International Reception Center (IRC) is temporary on-campus housing available to all newly admitted international students before the start of the fall semester. The IRC is in Centennial Hall, located on the Minneapolis East Bank Campus. This opportunity for housing is available only to students. Spouses and children are not eligible to stay at the IRC.

International students can stay at the IRC starting July 15, 2009, until 8:00 a.m. August 30, 2009. This will give you time to look for permanent housing. The cost of staying at the IRC is $20 per night for a single room. This cost will be charged to your student account and will appear on your first tuition bill.

Make a reservation online at www.housing.umn.edu/irc

Rooms at the IRC include bed sheets, a pillow, towels, washcloths, soap and a phone. Meals are *NOT* included in your room price. If you want to eat in the Centennial Hall Dining Center, you have to pay cash at the time you get the meal.

International Reception Center Check-in:

Centennial Residence Hall is located at 614 Delaware Street Southeast, Minneapolis, Minnesota. It is on the East Bank Campus. Transportation options are to arrange airport pick-up with a nationality group at the University or independently take a shuttle or taxi directly to the residence hall. For more transportation information visit our arrival website.

If the doors to the residence hall are locked, use the yellow phone outside of the door to ask for admittance from the main reception desk. The phone number for the main reception desk will be posted on the door. Once you are inside the residence hall you will find the main reception desk immediately inside the entrance. The hall is open 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.

Tell the receptionist that you are a newly admitted international student and that you'd like to stay in the International Reception Center. For identification, you MUST show your letter of admission to the University of Minnesota.

Students with Residence Hall Contracts:

Contact the Housing and Residential Life Office if you would like to move in before your residence hall contract begins. If you go to the IRC, you should inform the check-in office that you have a residence hall contract.
