On-campus Permanent Housing

If you want to live in a residence hall on campus, or in married-student housing nearby, visit the housing website as soon as possible because this housing is very limited. If you get your application in early, you will be put higher on the waiting list.

  • You must apply for housing after you apply for admission to the University.
  • You can apply for housing before you are admitted to the University.

There are three ways in which you can apply for on-campus housing:

  • Apply online through the housing website and pay the application fee with a major credit card. Your U of MN Internet ID and password will need to be initiated when you apply. If the form asks for your social security number, leave the field blank. The form will be processed with out it.

  • Apply online, print out the summary page of the application, and send this information with a cashier’s check or money order to the housing office.

  • Download the PDF file from the housing web page, complete the form and send this information with a cashier’s check or money order to the Housing and Residential Life office.

Comstock Hall East
210 Delaware St. SE
Minneapolis, MN 55455
Telephone: (612) 624-2994
Fax: (612) 624-6987

If you do not receive on-campus housing, $100 of the application fee will be reimbursed to you. The reimbursement will be done either by reimbursing your credit card or you will be sent a cashier’s check. If you are unable to pay the full application fee contact the housing office.

First-year freshmen students whose application is received by May 1 are guaranteed a room in a residence hall. There is a very limited reserved space for graduate students that require an early application. Otherwise, graduate, professional, advanced standing, and transfer students will be assigned residence hall rooms only after the first-year students receive their room assignments.

If you have been assigned a room in a University residence hall, you may be able move into the residence hall early. Contact the Housing Office in advance.
