Career Workshops

Every semester, ISSS offers a series of career workshops for international students on campus. These sessions provide practical information and materials on how to find a job, how to write a resume and cover letter, how to prepare for a job interview, and visa options after graduation. Some semesters, additional topics are offered such as the academic job search, finding an internship, and the home country job search.

These workshops are free. Registration is not required.

ISSS offers workshops for international Students during fall and spring semesters. The new schedule is available at the beginning of each semester.

Job Search Strategies Thursday, February 14 3:30 - 5:00 p.m. Room 105 Blegen Hall, West Bank An introduction to the process of finding a practical training or career position in the United States. We will discuss how to find job openings, what employers look for, cultural differences in the job search process, and campus resources.
Resumes and Cover Letters Thursday, February 21 3:30 - 5:00 p.m. Room 105 Blegen Hall, West Bank Your resume and cover letter are your ticket to a job interview. Learn about format and content. Sample resumes will be available.
Job Interviews: How to Prepare, What to Expect Thursday, February 28 3:30 - 5:00 p.m. Room 105 Blegen Hall, West Bank International students often report that interviewing is the most perplexing aspect of finding a job. Learn about interview purpose, format, standard questions, effective communications, and dress. Tips for preparation will be provided.
Employment - Based Visas Thursday, March 6 3:30 - 5:00 p.m. Room 105 Blegen Hall, West Bank An immigration specialist from a local immigration law firm will give an overview of employment-based visa options, including: H-1B Temporary Worker Visas, O-1 Extraordinary Ability Visas, and permanent residency options.
