H-1B Application Process
ISSS Application Procedures/Fee
As the office designated to handle visa issues for the University, ISSS works with UMN department representatives (called “Department Administrative Contact person”) to prepare the H-1B petition. The Department Administrative Contact submits an online H-1B application (using “INSZoom” software) and gathers the required paper documents to submit to ISSS. ISSS coordinates all documentation and correspondence with the appropriate government agencies. The USCIS sends the H-1B Notice of Approval directly to ISSS. ISSS in turn provides the appropriate Notice of Approval and documents to the department/employee.
The ISSS administrative fee for processing an H-1B petition is $1000 (payable via EFS).
What is INSZoom?
ISSS uses an online software program called INSZoom which will allow Department Administrative Contacts to go on-line to initiate requests for H-1B petitions for UMN employees (employees should not initiate such requests). Much of the data about the employee and the position can be submitted to ISSS via on-line questionnaires. Of course, USCIS still requires that paper documents be submitted, and employing departments will continue to be responsible for gathering and submitting all paper documents to ISSS. Using INSZoom is a quick and efficient way to process H-1B applications for University departments, H-1B applicants and ISSS.
